Jesus was keenly observing the daily life of the widow who lived in the margins of the society, because it is he who “executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing” (Deut 10:18). In the process, he did not miss the two coins she dropped into the collection box in the temple.
She dropped everything she had to live on. She trusts that the one who observes this act of her profound faith in secret is powerful enough to bless her with the imperishable coins of daily bread. Jesus proved himself to be faithful to her. In return, he too dropped all his coins and emptied himself on the cross. Except the tomb, everything was full. He emptied the tomb of the dead and rolled the stone of sin away.
